Tooling the Caulk - Silicone

Posted on

Silicone caulk

The silicone caulk we sell is from Inland, Inc. Company and they use more premium quality silicone. It is highly resistant to ultraviolet light, ozone, moisture, mildew and extreme temperature variations. Tooling this silicone caulk is easier now that they have added their high grade additives.

A pro can get a perfect bead every time because of his or her experience with silicon application and a few things don’t change, like laying down the right size of bead for the gap. Also, with silicone, it likes one wipe the best, not that you can’t tool it 2 or 3 times, but silicone will lay down and blend better the less you tool it.

Using your index finger is always good, and having it wet with mineral spirits or rubbing alcohol will help smooth it nicely. Don’t lay down too much bead for the joint. Silicone likes to spread out wide and you don’t want gobs of it in front of your finger as you pull. So remember, a little silicone just goes a long way!
