Should I seal my grout?

Sealed Grout

Sealing your tile grout provides a layer of protection against spills, stains and water penetration into your grout joints. Using a clear liquid quality grout sealer should be last step in your grout removal / grout repair project. For little cost and effort it is well worth saving the beauty and integrity of your grout job.

New grout requires a curing time of 72 hours before applying a sealer to ensure proper bonding. After sealing, foot traffic can resume after about 4 hours and the sealer will fully cure in approximately 24 to 48 hours.

The photos to the left show before and after shots of unsealed and sealed grout. There is a very subtle difference between these two photos. The sealed tile grout (in the photo) has become slightly darker. It is not uncommon for some grouts to become a shade or two darker when sealed.
